My dad's offhand comment about my lunch routine got stuck in my head all week

I was packing my lunch on Tuesday like I always do - same turkey sandwich, same apple, same granola bar. My dad was over helping me fix a leaky faucet and he just said "You pack that same thing every day, huh?" It wasn't mean or anything, just a simple observation. But I sat there and realized I've been eating the exact same lunch for like 8 years. Never questioned it. It made me wonder what other stuff I just do on autopilot without thinking. Has anyone else had a tiny comment from someone totally reframe how you look at your daily grind?

You pack that same thing every day, huh?" That line hit me hard too. I've been taking the exact same route to work for 10 years even though there's a faster way now. Never even thought to check the map. It's wild how much of our lives is just running on old software. Makes you wonder what else is stuck on repeat. What little thing did you change first after hearing that?

That line about running on old software really stuck with me. What was the first thing you actually noticed was different once you switched up that route, something you wouldn't have seen otherwise? And @morgan_bailey93 makes a good point about routines working, but does saving 4 minutes really beat the chance to notice something new?

Hot take but the autopilot thing is actually fine? Routine gives your brain room to focus on stuff that actually matters. My buddy spent 6 months "optimizing" his morning commute and saved like 4 minutes. Meanwhile his kid missed the bus twice because he was so focused on the new route. The turkey sandwich works. The apple works. You're not broken for having a system that functions. Some things don't need to be questioned if they're not causing problems.
