My lunch prep system crashed last week and I learned something weird about my fridge
I had a whole system for packing lunches every Sunday night, then my fridge died on a Tuesday afternoon in my apartment in Austin. I had to toss all the pre-prepped containers because the temp hit 50 degrees, and I panicked for a solid hour. I ended up buying a cheap cooler and ice packs to salvage what I could, but the real kicker is I found a bag of frozen burritos I forgot about that saved me for three days. Anyone else have a routine get wrecked by something random like an appliance failing?

Oh absolutely, that happened to me last summer with my old refrigerator and it threw everything off for a week. I had just done a big Costco run with all those pre-made salad kits and yogurt packs, then the compressor just gave out on a Thursday night. I ended up hauling everything to my neighbor's fridge down the hall, but I lost a whole batch of chicken I had marinated for the week. The frozen burrito find is real though, I discovered a whole sleeve of them in the back of my freezer that I forgot about and they honestly saved me from eating fast food every day.

You know, I used to be one of those people who thought it was silly to keep a bag of frozen stuff in the back of the freezer. I always figured you should eat fresh food or just buy what you need. But after my own fridge went kaput last fall, I changed my mind pretty fast. @victorhill brings up a good point too, because if someone is out of town and their fridge dies, they come back to a real mess. I lost a whole pork shoulder I had slow cooked and portioned out for lunches, and it was those random frozen veggie burgers I didn't even remember buying that got me through the week. It taught me that a little freezer clutter is actually a decent safety net when things go wrong.
