My neighbor's 5-minute sprayer story changed my whole view on lawn care

I used to think I needed to spend 45 minutes watering our tiny yard in Austin by hand every evening. Then my neighbor Bob told me he just runs a sprinkler for 15 minutes every other day and his grass is twice as green as mine. He showed me how the water actually soaks deeper that way instead of just running off. Now I'm trying his method and it's wild how much less time I spend out there. Has anyone else had a neighbor convince you to switch up a routine you thought was perfect?

Bob's method makes sense in my experience, that deeper soak trains the roots to go down instead of just sitting on top where they dry out faster. Might have to try his approach myself and see if it holds up through the Texas heat.

Bet nobody's talked about the city water bill angle yet. Austin water rates jump like crazy in summer and running a sprinkler half as long could save you real cash over a few months. Bob's got the green AND the savings.

Running a sprinkler half as long" would save me from my own forgetfulness too... I'd probably forget I turned it on and flood the yard.
