That $20 grocery store bouquet I bought on impulse turned into a whole weekend project

Stopped for milk and eggs on Tuesday and grabbed a sad looking $20 bouquet of sunflowers and filler greens. Figured it'd die in a few days like always. But I got home and started trimming stems way shorter than normal, pulled off half the leaves, and put them in a cleaned out pickle jar. They still look perfect 5 days later. Now I'm googling flower care tips and thinking about doing this every week. Has anyone else had a random cheap buy totally change your routine like that?

Wait, are you supposed to pull off half the leaves? I always thought the leaves helped the flower drink or something. Idk, maybe that's just what I've always heard but your results speak for themselves. Either way, sounds like you found something simple that actually makes a difference.

Tried full leaves for years, but stripping half them off gave me the best blooms I've had yet.
