The 20 minute mail merge that ate my whole Tuesday afternoon

I swear the 'simple' merge field fix in Outlook should've been 20 minutes but it ended up being 8 hours of chasing formatting gremlins, while my coworker swears the same task takes her 10 minutes with a different script. Is it me being stubborn with the built-in tool, or is the manual way actually the trap here, anyone else hit this wall?

Used to swear by the built-in mail merge until I watched a coworker just script the whole thing in five minutes. That one afternoon of formatting hell flipped my opinion for good. Now I only trust the manual tool for tiny lists and use a script the moment it gets messy.
