The 2014 spreadsheet that showed my real time sink for the first time
After 3 months of logging every task in a plain notebook, I found out I spend 11 hours a week just walking back and forth fetching parts, and seeing that number on paper made me reorganize the whole shelf setup, has anyone else ever quantified a hidden routine like that, or did it just make you depressed?
Man, that notebook thing is sneaky powerful because writing stuff down by hand hits different than typing it into some app. Here's the angle nobody talks about though: sometimes the fix is the problem. You reorganized your shelves and saved those 11 hours, but now I bet you're logging new tasks to find the next hidden time sink, and that logging itself eats time. I did the same thing with my grocery runs, tracked every trip, saved a ton by going once a week, then spent the free time hunting for more stuff to optimize. It never ends. At some point you gotta just close the notebook and live your life, because the number on paper can become its own weird hobby.
