The register tape tic that makes me cringe at every checkout

I spent 6 years running a deli counter in Columbus, Ohio, and now I can't watch anyone tear a receipt without flinching. People rip it off in one fast yank, which leaves those jagged edges that jam the printer on the next order. The trick is to pull down slow, pause, then lift up, like you're guiding a worm out of dirt. Has anyone else picked up a weird work habit that they can't unsee in public?

The worm out of dirt thing is oddly specific but I get it, once you notice that sound you can never unhear it. Solidarity from anyone who's ever worked a register, that jagged edge rip is basically a crime against the next person in line.
