Warning: The dishwasher flooded my kitchen on a Tuesday and I just stood there
Last Tuesday I loaded the dishwasher like I have for 11 years in this house, shut the door, and went to bed around 10pm. About an hour later I walked past the kitchen and heard water running, so I opened the door and a wave came out over the floor. The drain hose had popped off the disposal, and it pumped maybe 4 gallons across the tile and into the hallway carpet. I grabbed every towel in the house, and honestly the wet vac in the garage did more work than I did. When I was a kid my mom washed every dish by hand and said machines made people lazy, and I thought about that standing in an inch of water at midnight. I have no clue if the hose is just old or if I jammed a pot in front of it, so has anyone else had this happen with a hose that looked fine?
Old hoses can look fine and still fail, the clamp just lets go after years of hot water and soap. Mine did the same thing at 2am and the tile was slick as ice. Check that clamp every few months and swap the hose if it feels stiff or cracked. Mom was wrong about the lazy part, but she was right that water finds a way out.
