A guy at the Delaware State Fair got me hooked on pickle juice in my root beer
I was at the Delaware State Fair in Harrington last July and watched a vendor pour a shot of dill pickle juice into a cup of root beer before handing it over. I tried it out of pure curiosity and the salty sour hit actually cuts the sweet syrup in a way that works. Has anyone else tried pickle juice in soda, and if so what combo did you use?
My wife still brings up the time I tried pickle juice in a grape soda at a cookout and made everyone at the table smell my cup like it was a science fair project. Not my finest moment, but the salty sour thing does work with grape too, just less than with root beer. The dill really grabs the vanilla in the root beer and pulls it back so it doesn't taste like candy syrup. I've tried it with cream soda and that one was a miss, too sweet fighting too sour. Pickle juice in a Coke was okay but honestly the root beer combo is still the best one I've found.
