A guy at the diner in Reno swore by dipping fries in a chocolate shake, and I hate that he was right
I rolled my eyes when he said it, then tried it with a $4 vanilla shake from the counter and the sweet/salty thing actually works. The cold shake also firms up the fries a little, which sounds gross but isn't. Anyone got another sweet and salty combo I should test next?
The salt on the fries is doing more work than people give it credit for. Same reason salted caramel blew up, salt makes sweet stuff taste sweeter and cuts the sickly edge. Wendy's figured this out years ago with the Frosty and fries, that's a classic. What nobody talks about is how the temperature thing matters just as much as the flavors, since frozen stuff numbs your tongue a bit so you don't taste the sugar as hard. Try a salted soft pretzel with a caramel dip next, or even better, bacon and maple syrup on a waffle. Bacon is the king of this whole game if you ask me.
