Had to pick between ice cream on fries or fries on ice cream, one was a disaster

Last week at a diner in Portland I couldn't decide so I tried both on separate plates. Ice cream on hot fries just melted into a soggy mess, but cold fries crumbled on top of vanilla scoop actually gave a nice salty crunch. I ate the whole second plate in like 5 minutes. Has anyone else tried this combo and found the order actually matters that much?
