I used to hate putting peanut butter on burgers until I tried it at a diner last month and wow was I wrong

For years I thought people who put peanut butter on burgers were just messing around for internet points. Seemed like a waste of a good patty. Then last month I stopped at this little diner outside Nashville called The Grease Pit and the guy behind the counter dared me to try their "Elvis Burger" with peanut butter, bacon, and a fried egg. I figured why not, I'm already here. First bite hit me weird because you expect savory and sweet doesn't belong. But by the third bite I was actually mad at myself for all the burgers I ate without it. The peanut butter melts into this creamy salty spread that just works with the beef fat. I've made three at home since then using crunchy Skippy and thin patties. Has anyone else had a food combo they swore off for years that ended up surprising them?

That Elvis Burger sounds like a proper revelation. I had the same exact experience with pineapple on pizza. Hated the idea for like 25 years, then a buddy ordered a Hawaiian at a dive bar and shoved a slice in my face while I wasn't looking. The hot pineapple juice mixing with the grease just clicked in my brain. Now I get mad cravings for it, especially with jalapenos and ham instead of Canadian bacon. It's wild how our brains just decide something is wrong until the perfect version hits us.

That combo with jalapenos and ham instead of Canadian bacon is the real move. You get the salty, fatty, spicy, and sweet all hitting at once. My trick is to ask for extra sauce on the side and drizzle a little over each slice after it comes out of the oven. Keeps the crust from getting soggy but still lets that pineapple juice do its thing with the grease. Just be ready for people to judge you until they try a bite.
