Monday night I ate a tuna melt with grape jelly and it was somehow the best thing I've had all month
So I had one of those weeks where nothing went right, capped off by my car dying in the Kroger parking lot on 5th Street and me waiting 2 hours for a jump. I got home starving at like 9pm with almost nothing in the fridge except a can of tuna, some mayo, two slices of bread, and a jar of grape jelly my niece left behind. I was too tired to care, so I made the melt, and on a total dare to myself I smeared a thin layer of the jelly right on top of the tuna. The sweet and salty thing hit me instantly, and I'm not kidding, I sat there in my kitchen going back for a third bite before I even took my shoes off. What got me was the texture, the jelly kind of cuts through the mayo and makes the whole thing taste lighter instead of heavier. I gave it a 7 out of 10 and I'd honestly do it again on a normal night, not just a desperate one. Now I'm wondering if I got lucky with grape or if strawberry would be better, so has anyone tried other jelly flavors on a tuna melt?
Learned the same lesson with peanut butter and pickles years ago, where a bad day makes you brave enough to try stuff you'd never touch otherwise. It's funny how being tired and hungry strips away all your normal rules about what goes with what. Strawberry would probably work but grape has that darker bite that plays better against the salty fish.
