20 years of sweeping and I just figured out I was holding the brush wrong

Figured out I'd been holding my garden shears backwards for like 15 years (the safety grip was on the wrong side the whole time). My neighbor finally pointed it out when I was complaining about my wrists hurting after trimming the hedges. Made a world of difference, sort of embarrassing how long it took me to notice something that obvious.

Ha! That's wild but I totally get it. I actually read somewhere that a ton of people do this with pruners because the handle markings aren't always obvious until you've used them wrong for years. I had a buddy who used a circular saw backwards for like a month before someone told him, so you're in good company. At least your neighbor saved your wrists, that's a win.

I actually have a problem with this advice, Cora. I held my shears "correctly" for two years after my neighbor corrected me and ended up with a trigger finger in my thumb that required physical therapy. Sometimes the way we naturally hold tools is our body's way of compensating for its own mechanics, and changing it can do more harm than good.
