Cleaned 9 flues at a bed and breakfast in Asheville and the owner handed me a $100 tip
So this past Thursday I get a call from a bed and breakfast over in Asheville that has 9 fireplaces. The owner said she had put off getting them done for 2 winters and was worried about creosote buildup. I show up at 8am thinking it would be a normal job and it turned into one of the best days I have had in a while. Turns out 8 of the 9 flues were pretty clean since guests only used a couple of the fireplaces, so I got through them faster than I planned. The main one in the lobby though was NASTY, thick glazed creosote all the way up, took me almost 2 hours just on that one. When I told her the rest were fine and she did not need to pay for a full sweep on all of them, she looked at me like I was crazy. She ended up paying me for all 9 anyway and handed me a $100 bill on top of it. Felt good to do right by somebody and still get paid. Any of you ever get tipped like that on a commercial job? Curious if that happens to others or if this was just a one off.
