Debate with my buddy about poly vs steel brushes for heavy creosote

I had this argument with my regular partner Dave last week after we finished a job on Elm Street. He swears by poly brushes for everything, says they flex better on the curves and don't scratch the tile as much. I on the other hand have been using steel brushes for ten years now, especially on the heavy stuff from those wood stoves folks run all winter. Last month we cleaned a rental property where the owner hadn't swept in three years and my steel brush got through the buildup in half the time. But Dave showed me a flue last Tuesday where the steel brush left these fine scratches that he thinks will hold soot faster. What do you all use for that thick crusty creosote that builds up after a long season?

Man steel brushes all the way for that thick stuff, I did the same thing on a job last month and it cut through like butter.

Yeah agreed, steel brush is the way to go. Just make sure you're not going too hard on softer materials or you'll gouge the hell out of it lol.
