Finally gave up wire brushes for polypropylene rods on masonry chimneys

I used to swear by wire brushes for heavy creosote, but after ruining a flue liner on a job in Richmond last month I switched to polypropylene rods. They don't scratch the tile and still break up the hard stuff. Has anyone else had better luck with nylon or are you still running wire?

Man idk I never thought about the rods scratching the tile that much, I always just figured wire was the only way to go for the bad stuff. I switched over to nylon a few months back after a buddy kept bugging me about it and honestly it's weird how much quieter the job is now, like no more screeching against the liner. Still not totally sold on it for the really baked on creosote though, had a job last week where I had to go back over a spot with the wire brush anyway. Maybe I'm just stuck in my old ways but I like hearing that the polypropylene is working for you.

Used to swear by wire brushes for everything, but after scratching up a nice tile job last year I gave the poly stuff a shot. Still keep a wire brush in the truck for the tough spots, but the poly handles most of the job without the noise complaints. Quiet is nice, especially when the homeowner is watching.
