Found a raccoon family in a chimney in Springfield last Tuesday

I was doing a routine inspection on a 1920s brick chimney and my camera showed a whole nest about 15 feet down. The homeowner had no idea. I had to call animal control, and we waited almost two hours for them to show up and get the little guys out safely (they were not happy). The whole job took about four hours instead of one. Has anyone else had to deal with surprise wildlife mid-job, and what's your go-to plan?

Honestly, the smell must have been a dead giveaway (eventually).

My buddy had a mouse die in his wall last summer (took him a week to figure it out). The whole place smelled like a gym bag full of rotten eggs.

Ugh that smell is the worst. I had a squirrel get stuck in my chimney once and the only thing that helped was putting bowls of vinegar around the rooms. It took like two weeks for the smell to fully go away though.
