I wasted $200 on cheap chimney brushes last year

Bought a set of 3 wire brushes off Amazon for $30. Sounded like a steal. First one snapped its cable on a 2-story flue in Omaha, lost the head in the stack. Had to fish it out with a magnet on a rope, took me 2 hours. Second one's bristles started falling out after 3 jobs. Ended up buying a proper brush from a supplier for $85, should have just done that from the start. Anyone else get burned by cheap gear or am I the only one who learned the hard way?

Honestly, "lost the head in the stack" is my worst nightmare. That magnet trick sounds clever but I bet it was a pain. How long did it take you to even find a magnet strong enough to fish it out?

Wait, you actually went through with the whole magnet fishing thing? Thats wild @fiona_murphy. I figured you'd just end up buying a new head and calling it a day. Never thought about using a magnet on server racks - seems like asking for trouble with all the drives in there. Bet the old school ones arent even magnetic anymore, just solid state bricks of frustration.
