My old boss in Seattle taught me a trick with a mirror that I still use

About three years ago, I was working on a tricky brick chimney with a sharp offset. My boss, Frank, saw me struggling to see up the flue and told me to grab a small inspection mirror from the truck. He showed me how to angle it just right to catch the light from below, giving a perfect view of the bend without needing a camera. It was a simple fix that saved me over an hour of guesswork. Anyone have other low-tech tricks for seeing into tight spots?

Tried that with a phone flashlight once. Just held it flat against the wall to bounce light into a crawl space.

You held your phone flat against the wall? That's wild.

Works better than you'd think. Did it last week trying to see behind my fridge. The screen light spreads out and gives you this weird, flat glow.
