That Tuesday where every flue fighted me like it was personal
Last week I had a stretch of three jobs in a row where every single flue gave me grief. First house had a nest the size of a basketball wedged tight above the damper, took me 45 minutes just to break it loose. Second place the clay tiles were so cracked and shifted I couldn't even get my brush through without it snagging every three inches. Third job the homeowner decided to watch me work and kept asking if I was sure the liner was clean, real helpful. Has anyone else had a day where it felt like the chimney itself was against you?

Oh man, that's rough. But I gotta correct one thing - it's "flue" not "flue fighted." The word you're looking for is "flue" like the passage in a chimney. "Fighted" isn't a word either. The past tense of fight is fought. So you'd say "that Tuesday where every flue fought me like it was personal." I know that sounds nitpicky but proper terms matter in this trade. Anyway yeah, I've had those days. Sometimes you just gotta take a break, step back, and try a different angle or tool to get through the tough spots. The watching homeowner thing is the worst though.

Yeah @williamb29 nailed it with the spelling thing but also the advice. I've found that if I'm fighting a flue that hard I'm probably missing something simple like a screw I forgot to back out or a damper that's hung up. Step away for five minutes and it usually jumps out at you.
