Found out the hard way that a verbal change order on a kitchen remodel in Boise cost me $600
Last Thursday I was wrapping up a kitchen remodel off State Street in Boise and the homeowner asked me to move an outlet two feet to the left while I had the drywall open. I said sure, no problem, and just did it. Never wrote it down, never texted her about it, just figured it was a small thing and we had a good rapport going. Fast forward to this Monday and she is telling my guy she never approved any extra work and does not want to pay the $600 I added to the final invoice for the extra wire run, patching, and paint touch up. I have been doing this for eleven years and I know better, but it was one of those quick favors you think nobody will question. Now I am stuck eating it or fighting a client I actually like over a change she swears she never asked for. Lesson learned the expensive way, but my real question is do any of you use a standard change order form you can pull up on your phone on the spot, or do you just text a quick confirmation and hope it holds up?
