Lost a job last month because I showed up in a dirty truck

I pulled up to a potential client's house in my old Ford with mud all over the sides. The customer took one look and said 'I'll call you if I need anything.' Never heard back. Three years ago I would have laughed it off, but now I keep a bucket and rag in the bed. Anyone else ever lost work just because your rig looked rough?

Huh, I gotta say I see it the other way. If I'm paying someone to do a job, a dirty truck tells me they might not care about the small details either.

Yeah but that's a bit of a stretch, a dirty truck doesn't mean bad work.
