My old lead in Fresno told me to stop caulking before paint and I finally get it

Ngl I used to caulk every seam right after primer because it seemed faster, one trip instead of two. My old lead Ray watched me do it on a bathroom remodel in Fresno and said the caulk needs the paint to cure right or it pulls away from the tub. Two of my last jobs had hairline cracks along the tub and I blamed the caulk, but it was me rushing the order. Any of you caulk before first coat or do you wait for the finish?
