Rant: gave up on chalk lines for framing layout and switched to a laser, cut my setup time way down
Was doing a 24 foot garage wall layout last Saturday in Fresno and got so sick of my chalk line snapping fuzzy and drifting a half inch in the wind. Borrowed a buddy's cheap $90 Bosch laser and the plates lined up dead on the first try with no snapping and no crawling around on my knees. I know lasers can be fussy in bright sun, but for indoor rough framing I'm not going back to the string. Anybody got a laser they actually trust for outdoor work?
Switched to a laser on my last basement job and it was night and day. Crawling on my knees with a chalk line was killing my back, and the laser just sits there and shoots a line while I work. Also way less swearing when the wind kicks up.
