Spent 6 months watching new guys mess up drywall mud mixing
I've been doing drywall for 12 years in Portland and I keep seeing guys at the supply house buy all-purpose mud for taping and finishing. It's too thick for taping and too thin for a final coat - you end up sanding twice as much. Have you found a specific mud type that worked better for your jobs?

You know what really got me? Watching guys buy 45-minute mud for their first coat and then panic mixing because they didn't read the bag! Ive been there myself, rushing because the clock was ticking and the mud started setting up in the bucket. For me, the real game changer was switching to a lightweight premix for the final coat. It sands way easier and doesnt leave those weird hard spots you get with all-purpose. And for taping, I just thin down some plus-3 with water until it feels like pancake batter. Three coats tops, easy finish. The whole industry overcomplicates this stuff.

Is it really that deep though?
