That basement job in Highland Park made me ditch my old hammer drill
Was drilling into 60 year old reinforced concrete for a sump pump install and my corded DeWalt just smoked out after 3 holes. Borrowed a Hilti from the supply house and finished the other 12 holes in 20 minutes flat. Anyone else switched brands after one brutal day of work?

Can you really blame the drill after 60 year old concrete? That stuff is like drilling into granite. A few holes with a regular hammer drill on that kind of pour is already pushing it. The Hilti is a beast but it's also way more money and heavier for daily use. Most guys don't need that kind of power for drywall and wood studs. Your old DeWalt probably paid for itself a hundred times before that job. Sometimes it's not the tool, it's the job that's too much for it.

@wendy391 you're acting like the guy was trying to drill through a bank vault. It's a drill, not a spaceship. A bit of old concrete doesn't mean the tool is a zombie now.
