The 30 cent washer that saved a $400 call back

Last month I replaced a toilet flange in a rental unit in Boise and used a wax ring with a plastic bolt kit. A week later it leaked because the cheap bolts stripped, so I went back, pulled it, and swapped in brass bolts with a steel washer from my van. Has anyone else noticed how much faster the cheap fastener kits fail on fixtures, or is it just my bad luck picking the budget box?

Pay once, cry once. Cheap bolts are just future headaches with extra steps.
