The difference in drywall finish after I switched to a 12-inch knife

I was doing a bathroom remodel in a 1920s house over in Springfield, and the old tape joints looked terrible no matter how much I sanded. After about 3 rooms of fighting with bubbles and ridges, a guy at the supply house told me to try a 12-inch knife for the final two coats instead of my usual 10-inch. The difference was night and day - the wide blade just flattened everything out smooth, no more high spots. Has anyone else seen that big a jump just from one tool change?

Makes you wonder what else we're doing with the wrong size tool...

You tried a 12 inch knife? I'm still using mine to spread peanut butter, at least it's consistent.
