Threw $1,200 down the drain on a cheap tile saw from a big box store
I bought a $200 saw instead of spending $600 on a good one, and it burned out halfway through my master bath job in Colorado. The motor literally smoked after 30 cuts on 12x24 porcelain. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way with budget tools?

Ugh, that is the WORST feeling. I did the EXACT same thing with a $180 tile saw from the orange store, thinking I was being smart. It could barely handle 8x8 ceramic without bogging down, let alone the 18x18 stuff I was trying to cut. The motor literally stalled out on the 12th cut and smelled like burning plastic. Had to stop my whole project for three days while I ordered a proper saw and returned that junk.

Yeah I used to think bargain tools were fine but that story totally changed my mind.

Guess that $180 savings turned into a $180 lesson real quick. Nothing like the smell of burnt motor to remind you why you don't cheap out on tools.
