Vent: Homeowner asked me to 'just fix it quick' after demo day
Tore out a load-bearing wall in a 1920s bungalow in Denver without permits, then called me 2 hours later saying the ceiling sagged six inches. I told him I'd need an engineer first and he said, 'can't you just throw a beam up?'

Can't you just throw a beam up" tells me this guy has no clue what he's dealing with. A six inch sag in a load bearing wall in a 100 year old house is a major red flag, not something you patch with a quick fix. I'd be surprised if the place doesn't need a full foundation check after that.

Oh yeah, I went through something similar a few years back. The old house had a sag that looked minor to the eye but turned into a mess of rotted sills and shifting foundation walls. It's never just a beam job.
