Warning: got burned by a handshake bid last month in Tulsa, never again
Had a homeowner in Tulsa ask me to start a bathroom remodel the first week of last month with just a verbal agreement and a handshake because she swore the written contract was coming Friday. I ordered $2,100 in tile and fixtures that Wednesday on my own card to keep the schedule moving, and Friday came and went with no contract. She then said her husband wanted to get three more bids, which meant I was stuck holding materials for a job that might never happen. I ended up eating a 15 percent restock fee to send most of it back, and I still haven't seen a dime for the two days I spent tearing out the old shower. So now I tell every new client the same thing: no signed paper, no demo, no exceptions, even if it costs me the job. Anyone else got a story like this, and do you make them sign before you even walk the site?
