A guy at my old gas station job tried to pay with a handful of bottle caps
This was back in 2012 at the 24-hour spot off I-95. He was completely serious, and after that we started keeping a laminated sign at the register showing what real money looks like. Anyone else have a customer try to pay with something totally wild?

Ever wonder if people are just messing with you or if they're really that out of touch? I used to assume it was a joke every time... like someone trying to use a coupon from 1998 or foreign coins. But this one lady tried to pay for a soda and chips with those plastic tokens from an arcade. She got mad when I said no, like I was the one being crazy. That's when it clicked for me that some folks genuinely don't get it. Now I just figure they live in a totally different world.

Yeah, like christopherwilson said, they just have different rules in their head.

Remember that time my buddy worked at a movie theater? A guy tried to get in with a ticket stub from a show he saw the week before, like the torn half you keep. He argued it was proof he paid and should work again. My friend said the guy wasn't angry, just truly confused when they said no. It's like some people have a whole other set of rules in their head for how money and tickets work. Makes you wonder what else they see totally different.
