Just point to the date on the receipt and say the warranty period ended a long time ago.

Yeah and the dust and mineral buildup inside tells the real story. That thing probably saw daily use for six years straight. I've taken apart old machines that looked like science experiments with all the calcified gunk. At that point it's not a defect, it's just worn out. They got their money's worth years ago.
