Just had a customer argue with me for 45 minutes that a coffee mug was a 'collector's item' and not dishwasher safe... the box literally said 'dishwasher safe'.

Honestly, at that point you just have to hold the box and point at the words. I've had people swear a ceramic plate was "hand wash only" when the sticker was right there. Sometimes you just repeat "the box says dishwasher safe" like a broken record until they run out of steam. It's not worth the fight beyond that, some folks just need to feel right more than they need clean dishes.

Man, @lucasw82 is totally right about the broken record thing... I'd just keep reading the box out loud word for word. "Dishwasher safe. See? Right here. Dishwasher safe." Eventually they have to accept the printed facts or just leave mad, but you can't argue with a label.
