Overheard a customer claim we hide sale items on purpose - here's what I actually saw
I work retail at a hardware store and last week I heard a guy tell his friend we "hide" clearance items so people don't buy them. Made me laugh because I literally found 3 boxes of tile adhesive marked down 75% just sitting behind a pallet of concrete. The price tag was face down. That same week I spotted a clearance shelf near the plumbing aisle with 40% off pipe fittings nobody touched for 3 days. I grabbed a set myself. It's not that stores hide stuff - workers just get lazy about facing the shelves. Have you ever found a hidden clearance score like that?

Honestly I think it's just retail laziness more than anything. Worked on a hardware store remodel once and found like 20 cans of spray paint sitting behind a display that had been discounted months ago. Nobody had bothered to check the backstock. And those clearance endcaps near the plumbing aisle? Gold mine if you actually take time to dig through the mess. Saw a guy get a brand new chainsaw for half price just because the box was beat up and they shoved it behind some brooms.

Gotta respect that chainsaw find. Clearance endcaps are pure chaos but sometimes you hit the jackpot if you're patient enough to dig.

Used to think clearance stuff was just junk nobody wanted, but you changed my mind. The chainsaw story is wild but it makes sense when you think about how disorganized those endcaps get. Guess if you're willing to actually dig through the mess you can find some real gems.
