Showerthought: A tenant in Phoenix tried to pay rent with a painting of a cat
This happened at my office a few weeks ago, and they said it was worth $1200 because it was 'art'. I had to explain that the property owner only accepts cash or a check, and the whole thing got pretty heated. What's the weirdest thing someone has tried to give you instead of actual money?

Did they at least bring the cat painting in for you to see, or was this all just a description over the phone? The idea of someone getting mad that you won't take a painting makes me wonder what their backup plan was.

Honestly, grantp28, they just described it, and my mental image was probably way better than the real thing. Their backup plan was clearly just to get mad at me, which is a pretty bad plan. I'm almost impressed by the commitment to a failed idea.

Seriously, their whole plan was just doubling down on being upset. It's like they thought anger was a tool that could fix a bad idea. Some people just can't admit when a plan is dead.
