This lady at the bookstore wanted a refund because the novel's ending made her sad
She stood at my register for 15 minutes yesterday, holding a clearly read copy of 'The Fault in Our Stars', demanding her $12.99 back because, and I quote, 'the author emotionally scammed me', and my manager actually gave her a store credit to make her leave.

Look, I get why the manager did it. That book is basically famous for making people cry, and maybe she felt misled by the marketing. If a movie trailer hid that it was a horror film, you'd want your money back too. I mean, she paid for an experience that really upset her, and the store credit is a cheap way to avoid a scene.

Store credit" is why I only read free library books.

But what about books that are meant to upset you on purpose? @reese124, if a story is famous for making people cry, isn't that part of what you're buying? Should you get a refund for feeling sad after watching a sad movie?
