Unpopular opinion: I picked the expensive resin coupler over the brass one for that main line repair
Everyone at the supply house told me to go with brass for the 4 inch main line job I had last month in Columbus. But after three trips back about a corroded fitting last year on a similar job, I went with the $45 resin coupler instead. It took about 20 minutes longer to install because you gotta mix the epoxy right and wait for the cure time. But six weeks later and not a single drip, while my buddy's brass fitting is already showing green spots. Has anyone else had better luck with the newer composite materials over the old standbys?

Ask him if that green spotting showed up on the threads or on the body of the fitting. I had a brass one fail right at the thread taper last summer, looked fine until the whole thing split clean in two during a pressure test. Makes me wonder if the cheap resin stuff holds up better because it flexes a little with the ground shifting.
