Update: the guy who quit my old call center in 2019 told me this week he still dreams about one customer, and now I get it
Honestly I ran into Marcus at a gas station in Aurora on Tuesday, first time in like 4 years, and he brought up a lady who used to call our cell phone store 3 times a day about a $12 overage. He said he can still hear her opening line word for word ("I need to speak to somebody who actually knows phones") and that it pops into his head at random times. What hit me is that I never once felt bad about hanging up on her, and he's been carrying her around for 6 years. So I told him about my own version, a dude who brought in a cracked tablet 40 minutes before close on a Friday and just stared at me while I fixed it. We laughed about it for like 20 minutes in the parking lot. Tbh I think most of us just bury this stuff and gas station run-ins dig it back up. Does anyone else have a customer from a job you left that you still think about, and do you ever wonder why that one?
Man, some customers just burrow in and never leave. The weird part is it's never the worst ones you'd expect, it's some random nobody who got stuck in your head for no real reason. Six years is a long time to carry a lady who just wanted to yell about 12 bucks.
