Finally closed on a 5k sq ft warehouse in SW Detroit after 14 months of chasing title issues

The seller had an old lien from 1987 that nobody bothered to clear, and three different title companies just kept punting it. Took a local title examiner who actually knows the city's old filing system to track down the original paperwork in two days. Anybody else run into weird old liens that take forever to resolve around here?

Right, that 1987 lien is EXACTLY the kind of paperwork nightmare that makes Detroit deals take forever.

Figured I'd be done with my Detroit flip in three months, now I'm six months in and still chasing down a title issue from 1992. My paperwork pile looks like a small mountain on my kitchen table, right next to a half-eaten bag of chips. If I ever find the guy who signed off on that original lien, I owe him a firm handshake and a stern talking-to.
