Hit 50,000 square feet leased in Detroit's core last quarter - never saw that coming
Back in March I was just trying to unload a 12,000 square foot warehouse near Eastern Market, nothing fancy. But then a tech startup from Ann Arbor came sniffing around, and suddenly they wanted a whole floor in a Midtown office building I had listed. I ended up brokering three separate deals in April alone, plus a retail spot in Corktown that had been sitting empty for 18 months. The total square footage hit 52,400 by the end of Q2, which is way more than I did in all of 2023 combined. I think the key was the Motor City Match grants finally pushing people to sign leases they were sitting on. Has anyone else seen a spike in activity around the Wayne State corridor? I'm wondering if it's just me or if the whole market is heating up.

Is that Motor City Match thing really making the difference for you?

I'm actually wondering if the Motor City Match grants are just the TIP of the iceberg here. Something nobody's really talking about is how the city's new BIZZY building inspection rules are making it WAY less of a headache to get a Certificate of Occupancy for older spaces. I've seen two deals fall through because of that red tape in the past, and now with the streamlined process, those same landlords are finally ready to sign. Plus the new tax abatement for mixed-use stuff in the Midtown corridor is basically a secret weapon nobody's mentioned yet.
