The title search on a blighted parcel ate 6 weeks of my life
Bought a small lot off Gratiot for a flip and thought the title was clean. Turns out there were three heirs scattered across two states and a tax lien from 2009 nobody filed on. Took 6 weeks and $2,300 in legal fees just to get clear ownership, anyone else hit this on Detroit parcels?

Check if that 2009 lien is still enforceable first, some of those expire after a decade and the city just hopes you pay it.

Whoa, that's brutal but honestly not shocking for Detroit. Did the attorney actually verify whether that 2009 lien was still valid, because @wendyk56 makes a good point about those expiring and you might have paid for something you didn't owe? I'd dig into that before you sink more money into this one.
