A chat with a hostel owner in Medellin made me double-check my travel insurance
He said he sees at least one nomad a month stuck with huge bills after a simple scooter fall. Has anyone actually had to use their policy for a medical emergency abroad?

Broke my ankle hiking in Thailand last year. My travel insurance covered the hospital stay and the flight home with a nurse. I would have been in serious debt without it.

Honestly, travel insurance feels like a scam most of the time. They find any little reason not to pay out, like calling a pre-existing condition. For a simple break, you could just pay cash at a clinic there for way less than years of premiums.
