Coworker told me my background noise was driving her crazy during calls

Was on a Zoom with a client last Tuesday and my coworker in the same co-working space in Austin slid me a note that said 'dude your keyboard is so loud'. I didn't even realize I was clacking away on my mechanical keyboard during every call. Switched to a quiet membrane keyboard the next day and she actually thanked me after our team standup. Now I keep a headset with good noise filtering too. Anyone else ever get called out for something simple you didn't notice?

Honestly this is one of those things I used to roll my eyes at. I thought people complaining about keyboard noise were just being dramatic or picky about nothing. Then I borrowed my buddy's mechanical keyboard for a week and recorded myself typing on it, and wow it was way louder than I ever realized. It's like you don't hear it because you're in your own bubble. So yeah I totally get why your coworker said something now. Sometimes you just need someone to point out the obvious.

Man it's wild how that works with so many things, not just keyboards - you never realize how annoying your own habits are until you step back and see them from someone else's side lol.

Three days with my brother's mechanical keyboard in my home office and my husband threatened to move out. I didn't believe him until I watched myself type on a zoom recording and it sounded like I was playing the world's most annoying drum solo. The worst part is now I can't unhear it, so I'm stuck being annoyed at myself every time I type a sentence. Really appreciate you opening my eyes to my own loudness, friend.
