Got told my Zoom background was too distracting and I swapped it out
A client said my beach background made it look like I was on vacation, not working. Changed to a plain bookshelf and haven't had a single complaint since. Anyone else tweak their setup based on feedback like that?

I read somewhere that plain backgrounds subconsciously signal professionalism since they don't pull focus. Makes sense why your beach scene got complaints, that's pretty loud for a work call. Swapping to bookshelves is a safe move that works for almost everyone.

Stick with a solid colored wall or a simple bookshelf, @kelly_craig totally nailed why that beach one backfired.
