That $95 portable monitor was the best and worst purchase I made this year

Bought a cheap portable monitor off Amazon back in March to use with my laptop while hopping between hostels in Thailand. It worked great for about 6 weeks, then the USB-C port started cutting out randomly. I had to hold the cable at a weird angle just to keep the screen alive. Ended up buying a second one from a different brand for $140, and that one has been solid for 4 months now. The lesson I learned is you can't cheap out on gear that you depend on for work every single day. Any other nomads out there have a similar experience with budget tech failing mid-trip?

Did you check if the cable itself was the problem, or was it definitely the port? I had something similar happen, and swapping to a shorter, higher quality cable fixed it completely for me.
