That Bali coworking owner gave me terrible wifi advice...

Six weeks ago I landed in Canggu and this guy running a shared space told me to just use a local SIM as my main connection. Said it would be fine for video calls. I spent $45 on a Telkomsel plan and it dropped out during three client meetings. Missed a deadline because my Zoom froze right when I was presenting a mockup. Finally switched to a Starlink setup at a coworking hub in Ubud and it's been rock solid. Has anyone else had a local digital nomad guru steer you wrong like that?

Totally feel you on this one. I had a similar thing happen in Chiang Mai where some guy at a co-working spot swore up and down that a certain hotspot would handle all my calls. Spent $60 on it and it dropped like crazy during a big presentation to a client back home. Ended up just booking a private office at a different hub with a hardwired fiber line and it fixed everything. It's wild how much bad advice floats around from people who sound like they know what they're talking about.

Did you ever ask that coworking guy why he was so confident about the SIM or did he just brush it off like it was no big deal? Seems like a lot of these "gurus" push whatever they personally use without testing it for actual work needs. Would love to know if he owned up to giving bad advice or just disappeared.
