Vent: A local in Chiang Mai asked me what I actually make

I was working from a cafe there last month, and the guy at the next table just pointed at my laptop and asked, 'So, you can live here doing that? What's the number?' It was super direct. How do you guys handle those money questions from strangers?

Isn't it wild how money talk is totally off limits back home but gets asked so casually elsewhere? I see this all the time now, like the price of your rent or your phone plan is just open chat. It feels less about being rude and more like a different rule book for what's personal. Makes you wonder why we guard those numbers so tightly, doesn't it? Maybe we're the weird ones for acting like salary is a secret. Still, a stranger just asking point blank would throw me off too.
