My airlock bubbled over for the third batch in a row and I finally figured out it's because my basement dropped below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

I moved the carboy upstairs next to the radiator and the krausen settled right down, so has anyone else had to change their setup because of a sudden cold snap?

Honestly, that whole temperature chase is the worst part of the hobby. My buddy tried to use a space heater in his garage and ended up cooking a batch into fusel rocket fuel. Sometimes the simple fix of just moving it is the best one.

Wasn't there a post on the homebrew subreddit about using a heat belt for this exact problem? A lot of folks in older houses seem to swear by them for keeping carboys stable. It beats having to move everything around every time the weather shifts.

Heat belts saved my setup last winter in a drafty apartment. My fermentation would stall out every time the temp dropped at night. Wrapping the carboy with one of those belts kept it at a steady 68 degrees. It's way less hassle than trying to find the one warm spot that changes day to day. The initial cost was worth it for the peace of mind alone. My batches have been way more consistent since I started using it.
